As of July 1997, the veterans population of the United States was estimated at 25.6 million. Nearly eighty out of one hundred living veterans during a defined period of armed hostilities. Altogether, almost one-third of the nation's population, approximately 70 million persons who are veterans, spouses and children of veterans or survivors of deceased veterans, are potentially eligible for benefits and services as administered by the Department of Veterans Affairs. The laws, rules and regulations governing the administration of veterans benefits by the Department of Veterans Affairs are difficult and at times impossible for the average person to decipher. In light of this problem and the fact that laws and regulations change on an almost daily basis, the American Legion has established a position to assist veterans in filing for benefits they have earned through their years of honorable service to our great nation. This position is your American Legion Service Officer.

In conjunction with the opening of the World war II Memorial, a website was created for the purpose of honoring those veterans. This site allows you to enter information pertaining to veteran's service and once it is reviewed and approved this information will be permanently entered into the website. Once the entry is approved, the printable version makes for a nice keepsake to matte and frame. If you know any World War II veterans that would like to have their information approved for this website.

Go to www.wwiimemorial.com and enter the site and open an account.

For those who do not have a computer, Our Service officer will be more than happy to enter this information for you. Forms are available at the Post Home and when completed, leave them for the Service Officer.
